在今后的五年里,NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration,美国国家航空与航天局)将会陆续把这50年来的载人和无人太空计划、图片、视频、影片以及其他资料,悉数转换为数字格式,并公开在一家非盈利的LA(旧金山)公司Internet Archive网站上.
NASA已经在网上公开了它不少资料,但是这些内容分散在20个不同图片库中,除非你确切知道它在哪儿,否则很难找到你想要的资料.
Internet Archive的业务经理Paul Hickman说公司将会用他们放置在旧金山、欧洲、埃及的高容量服务器来存储这些数据资料.目前,据估计公司大约有5P(5000T)的存储空间,而且还会继续扩容.图片等数据会存放在硬盘中交给Internet Archive,其他资料,包括印刷文档、微缩胶片、书籍、音频资料和VHS视频资料,将会进行扫描和复制,待其数字化之后交给Internet Archive,这也是此项计划将会持续5年的原因.
